torque mode vs velocity mode

I was reading some literature from a motion control board site wich mentioned torque mode servos are can be very effective. What would be pros and cons be of going from velocity mode to torque mode on a typical ball screw cnc arraingemnt?

The amplifier you were looking at allowed for using it in a velocity mode often used with tach feedback, where the output speed is directly related to input voltage, however in CNC applications it is now preferable to use it in The current or torque mode, where the input control voltage is directly proportional to the output Current, you do not need the tach feedback to the drive, however the control uses motion feedback in the form of an encoder to close the loop. It usually makes for simple tuning, with the velocity mode with tach and encoder feedback, it was neccessary to tune the velocity loop first and then the motion control loop next. Torque mode makes for tighter control and easier tuning.
